Lieutenant Mark Whidden graduated from the Wharton County Junior College Police Academy in June 2002. He began working at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in September 2002 as a deputy jailer under Sheriff J.W. Jankowski and later served as a night shift supervisor. In January 2006 he transferred to the patrol division and was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2010. Three years later he moved to the criminal investigations division promoting to the rank of Lieutenant in March 2017.
Lieutenant Whidden is a Master Peace Officer and a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy in Quantico Virginia. He is also a certified TCOLE instructor as well as an instructor in firearms, driving, defensive tactics, and active shooter response. He has been an active member of the Washington County Special Response Team since 2015 serving in various roles from sniper to team leader.
